    I have been suffering from Gout from long and it can be present in a number of ways, although the most usual is a recurrent attack of acute inflammatory arthritis (a red, tender, hot, swollen joint). The metatarsal-phalangeal joint at the base of the big toe is affected most often, accounting for half of cases.

    This is a very good article that began from the basics to its remedies. I have a few questions. How different is Gout from osteo-arthritis? Should one stop going to a gym if suffering from Gout? If continue to work out, then would all workouts be possible or heavy weights etc exercises should be avoided? Does age play the role of being a factor in causing Gout?

    Thanks for the informative article. Yes awareness about the diet plan is really very important. Otherwise one may keep consuming food that triggers gout and realize much later that the precautions were not that difficult. If you have any other illness too, then do see a doctor and work on your diet plan. Make sure to take your medicines prescriptions because he may ask what medicines have you been taking. That too affects your diet plan. Some medicines are strong and need extra vitamins to keep the body stable.

    Drinking eight to ten glasses of water is really very important. One must reduce the intake of fructose. Alcohol consumption should be limited too. Having vitamin rich foods is generally advised though. It is important to take all the measures described by the doctor; otherwise this condition could lead to sleep apnea which means long pauses in breathing during sleep. This can go up to an extent of taking one’s life. A diet plan and lifestyle change would help a lot.

    It is advisable not to consume those foods that are rich in proteins and purines. You need not avoid all purine rich foods and foods made up of mushrooms, beans, peas, cauliflower and beans may not be harmful, yet, you should consult your dietitian and specialist before deciding to have any of them. Obese should also consider doctor’s advice to help reduce weight and the risks of gout together.
